Millions of people watch TV, it is one of the most common and most accessible means of entertainment. So then, we all know about commercials and how they can grow tiresome. With technologies like tivo, you can often fast forward through commercials. But what if you just want to get rid of them all together? Well Programming without commercials do exist, although they tend to be very limiting.
If you do not want to deal with the hassle of commercials interrupting your viewing, then there is really only two options available to you. You can either subscribe to premium channels or turn to the internet.
As I am sure most everyone knows, premium channels such as HBO or Showtime require an additional fee to have access to. This fee is because they do not air any commercials, and so they need a means of making money. The main downsides for utilizing premium channels is of course the obvious, having to pay additional money. But there is also another downside to using this method.
Premium channels often tend to be very limited in what they have to offer. Mostly it is movies and original shows. This is fine if you are an avid movie goer or simply enjoy the series on these channels. But if you like a large variety of shows to watch, you will not get them here.
If you want Programming without commercials but do not want to pay extra or lose out on your variety, then the next alternative is the internet.
Watching tv shows on the web is becoming more and more popular every day. In fact most channels like Fox will often host their episodes on their own site a couple days after it airs on tv. Depending on which site you use, they may still play commercials like normal. However most of the time what they will do is play one commercial at the very start, and then you can watch the entire episode commercial free.
The reason for this is because the website itself will host a lot of ads towards various things, and these ads help generate a lot of money for the site. TV’s only real way to generate money is through commercials, thus you have to sit through them. But the internet offers different methods for obtaining money, so they can afford to cut the commercials from the actual episode.
You may be concerned that it is illegal or “pirating”, but as I said above a lot of channels will host their own websites. Beyond that, there are legal sites that give money towards the show so you can watch online without feeling like you are cheating.
If you do not like either of these choices but still want Programming without commercials, then I am afraid to say you are out of luck. You simply will not find normal television channels that do not have commercials. It is the only way they can make money after all, so without those commercials they would not be able to air the shows to begin with.
