We all know that there is no shortage of great “gadgets” that will enable us to do more each and every day. One of the most complete of these gadgets is the handheld PDA with GPS.
This palm sized computer makes it possible for you to do so much during your day; check your location, get directions, surf the web, update status and check email to name just a few.
There are many different models and brands of handheld PDA with GPS and many of them have a lot more than just GPS.
Sorting through it all may be a little confusing so in this article I will provide you with a brief overview of some of the features you can find in today’s ultra powerful handhelds.
First of all, I guess I should start with a definition, PDA stands for personal digital assistant. It’s kind of like a personal assistant you can carry around with you during your day! How handy is that?
These PDA’s were the first generation of handheld computers. The first models were basically just glorified phone books and memo pads, today’s models can do so much more.
Here are some of the common features many modern PDA’s can come with:
1. The ability to create spreadsheets, word documents and other types of documents.
2. WiFi capabilities so you can surf the web from pretty much anywhere you go.
3. GPS so you can figure out where you are and where you need to go from pretty much anywhere you go.
4. Games and the ability to download other games over time if you want to.
5. MP3 and MP4 capabilities so you can easily download and access multimedia files.
6. The ability to add more memory storage if needed.
7. A Qwerty keyboard as well as a large full color screen.
8. Some models even come with USB ports so you can add other devices such as bigger keyboards.
9. Bluetooth which provides you with the ability to transfer data to another Bluetooth enabled device.
Not all PDA’s will come with all these features and it is best for you to identify which features you really need and want since every feature that you add will also add money to the price.
If you are on the lookout for this type of device your best bet is to either head online or head down to your local electronics store.
Being able to compare products side by side will allow the best opportunity to see the exact features and decide which one(s) you really need and want.
Of course one of the biggest determining factors for most people will be their budget. If you have a limited budget you will need to carefully consider how you will be using your PDA on a daily basis.
From that point, you can zero in on the features that are really necessary, say GPS, as opposed to those that may just be fun such as games.
This will enable you to get what you need at a price you can afford.
Today, you have many choices in a handheld PDA with GPS. And truthfully, adding GPS to the unit is really just the tip of the iceberg.
